Many have been said against you. In fact, among my friends, the most common advice has been to keep my heart guarded. “He’s only going to break your heart,” they say. To some extent, I agree. You are bound to break my heart.
Yet, should the fear of getting my heart broken keep me from you? You make me happy right now. Being with you is like getting into bed with a steamy romance novel on a cold rainy day. It’s comfortable and familiar, yet exciting. It’s one of my favorite things in the world!
Besides, I have tried keeping my distance in the past. All it did was cause me misery. I realized that one cannot stop the inevitable. We can try to delay it. We can fight it all the way, kicking and screaming, but what’s bound to happen will happen. There’s a natural pull in the movement of time that acts like currents in the river. The best way to deal with it is to go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
Two things can happen in the end: we either find our way into the ocean, a new world waiting to be explored or we crash into a boulder and find ourselves in pieces. Of course, we all want the former, yet life doesn’t always give us what we want. Meanwhile, the more time we spend worrying about the possible consequences, the less time we spend immersing ourselves in the things that bring us joy.
In the mean time, we cannot force love. Yes, you and I will probably break each other’s hearts but in the end, only time can tell with certainty.
For now, I hold on to what makes me happy: YOU.
