OOTD: Getting Into the Groove

When Carizza told me that the theme for the Sophie Anniversary party was Brazilian samba, I had no idea about what I should wear. The first thing that came to mind was a flamenco dancer’s costume – tiers of red and black taffeta. Upon consulting with Mr. Google, however, he showed us photos of dancers in sparkly, skimpy costumes, instead. How wrong my initial thought was!

Personally, I have an aversion to anything too colorful AND sparkly.  I don’t want to look like a rainbow farted on me. Good thing Carizza reminded me that it was just supposed to be “inspired” by the Brazilian samba. With that in mind, I scoured my closet for something to wear.

Since in the photos I saw, most of them only wore a bra with a sparkly fringe / feather skirt, I thought an underwear-inspired top would be a nice reference. So I pulled out my silk chemise from La Senza because it also reminded me of Chanel’s underwear as outerwear collection a few seasons back.

For the skirt, I took a sweetheart dress I had and folded the top in to transform it into a skirt then I belted it to keep it from falling down. Lastly, I found this little red hat with lace and feathers and wore it as my head-piece since Brazilian samba dancers had huge head pieces made of colorful feathers.

The result?

Admittedly, it’s not very Brazilian samba – like, is it? Hahaha Forgive me, though, as I have left my very colorful wardrobe back in 2010. Today, my closet’s mostly filled with clothes in neutral colors. Only about 10% of my clothes are in bright colors. 😀
