Spotlight: Skin Food Lip Products

You guys have seen these products on my haul post and most of the reaction I got was how over priced Skin Food products are here as compared to Korea. Admittedly, I too was surprised when I stepped into the shop and saw that a tube of lipstick costs PHP600+. I was expecting the prices to be somewhere in the range of Tony Moly’s and Etude House’s. Nevertheless, I had a PHP500 gift certificate so I went ahead and used it.

For that, I got this Skin Food Honey Glossy Rouge Lipstick in the number 606. It’s a peachy nude translucent shade that I don’t have in my collection yet. Although nude colors don’t go too well with my coloring (makes me look dead), I haven’t given up on nude shades yet and am still on the look out for ones that are perfect for me.

This was the first time I’ve seen a bullet shaped like this. I don’t think I prefer this shape to the regular ones. I find it more difficult to maneuver around the lips and make the application precise. It still serves the purpose though so maybe I’m just whining about something unfamiliar to me. πŸ™‚

I would say this lipstick is very creamy in terms of texture and the color is slightly sheer. You can see the swatch below for reference plus a before and after photo of my lips without and with this shade. πŸ™‚

Above, you can see that in the before photo, I had very visible wounds on my lips. After applying the lipstick, the wounds were slightly covered.

To be honest, I don’t find anything special about this lipstick especially at that price point. The color is all right though and the lipstick itself is not drying.

Moving on, here’s another Skin Food lip product I got from my friend as a gift from her Β trip to Korea. Apparently, she only got it for around PHP150 in Korea. It’s double the price here, unfortunately.

Is there anything that differentiates it from other lip balms? Not really. I love its Raspberry flavor tho and it is indeed very moisturizing. I suggest you get this is you are addicted to lip balms and Β just like collecting different brands. πŸ™‚

Here’s what it looks like on the lips:

Overall, I can say that I’m not very impressed with Skin Food’s lip products. I have a friend though who swears by their powder. I guess for the prices here in the Philippines, I don’t see anything extra special in the products that make them worth buying. πŸ™‚

Let me know your thoughts though. Any Skin Food user out there?

  1. I like the Peach Sake Pore bb cream and their Buckwheat powder. I’ve tried samples of their other product lines and I was impressed especially with the wash off masks. πŸ™‚ When it comes to lip products, I haven’t been brave enough to buy them because I need to swatch first and their products are a bit pricey in the mall. I think some products are not as pricey before but still too expensive compared to buying from online sellers.

      1. Their rice mask and sugar mask are refreshing πŸ™‚ If ever you could get samples of those two somehow, you might find Skin Food a great brand too. For lip products, Etude House, Tony Moly and The Face Shop all have affordable products with great colors too so I am sticking with them for the most part. And Laneige when they’re on sale πŸ˜‰

  2. I agree, it’s quite pricey. You can have two or three shades of lippie with that amount, but of course, it’s always nice to have one at least, dba? πŸ™‚

  3. I’m not really into Skin Food too ’cause of the price. I’ve only tried samplers of their skincare items and although they smell wonderfully and I tend to get addicted to them, I didn’t see significant results which would make me want to buy the full sizes.

  5. I heard nga na super double, not even double.. triple ang price pagdating dito sa PH. Isama mo na dyan ung isa pang korean store na sikat din. Most of my friends who work in korea said to buy their products online o pasalubungan n lng daw nila ako… LOL

  6. Skin Food products are good but they are just too expensive here in Manila. I was disheartened when I saw the prices in Korea. This brand is in the exact same level as Etude House but it’s just way overpriced here,.. no wonder the entire store is 50% off whenever there is a sale. They’ve priced some items 300% to 400% of the Korean SRP.
