Spotlight: Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain and Color Seal Balm

Have you ever wished for a lipstick that lasted all day and doesn’t transfer everywhere whenever you’re eating? I have. Especially since I am a huge fan of lipsticks, I’ve always had the problem of actually keeping it on my lips. Usually, since I’m a massive lip biter, my lipstick will only last for an hour or so then I would have to reapply again.

Then I was introduced to lip stains. Lip stains can last for much longer except that it can dry the lips. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than dry lips. Agree?

Luckily, I came upon Smashbox’s Limitless Lip Stain and Color Seal Balm in one of Pixiwoo’s Youtube videos. Like her, I was happy to note that in addition to the lip stain, this comes with a sealing color balm that you can use all day long to keep your lips feeling moisturized. This seems to be the solution to my lipstick / lip stain problem so despite its hefty price tag (PHP1,150), I decided to give it a try.

As you can see, this product has two ends – one contains the stain while the other contains the balm. Use the stain once on your lips then retouch throughout the day with the color seal balm.

Pros

  • The color pay off (as expected since it’s a stain) is really good! I got mine in the color Sangria since I fell in love with it when I saw Sam of Pixiwoo use it in a video. Call it love at first sight! Sangria is deep red shade that makes your lips look like Snow White’s – “With lips red as blood.”
  • I love the felt tip applicator as it helps you apply the color precisely. It’s literally like drawing your lips on! Plus, the balm on the other end is also a genius. It prevents your lips from drying while also ensuring that the color remains.
  • It works! I tried drinking from a clear glass after using this product and I was happy to see that there were no lip stains left on the class. The balm transfers a bit though but the stain stays put. If there was one thing, however, that can move the stain, it’s oil. So, beware of oily food!
  • This product also comes in other different colors so if Sangria is too red for you, you can opt for a shade like Guava or Cinnamon.

Cons

  • The price (PHP1,150) will always be an issue for me just because I’m still not used to spending so much for makeup.
  • It’s a bit tricky to get off especially if you have wounds on your lips like myself. The stain seems to concentrate most on the wound.

Overall, though, I’d give this product a 4/5. 🙂

Now here are some swatches to give you more information about the product. The stain is on the right while the balm is the sheerer swatch on the left.

And here are before and after shots of Sangria plus a photo of my face just to give you an idea of how it actually looks like in the context of the face. Does that even make sense? Hahaha

How about you? Do you have the same issues with lipstick as myself? Would you considering trying out this product?

  1. Wow. so the marker really works! lol. Your Con #2 is actually a problem for all lip stains. As i’m a fan of cheek and lip tints, i encounter same problem most of the time. The kind where you put the stain on dry lips and the color would settle on the inner/middle lip because it chaps there haha! What i do to prevent color settling is have a pinch of sugar, wet with a lil olive oil and do some lip scrubbing. Or brush my lips gently while bathing. So there! btw, I am TEMPTED! 🙂

  2. Wow Snow White red indeed. The shade looks so great on you. This is so cool. I won’t have to lug around 2 different tubes. But the price is also an issue to me. Even Burt’s Bees price at 300+ is already too much for me (for a lip balm that is)… I’m trying a new lip miracle, err sugar scrub and it works great as a balm too.. I’m gonna blog about it once I finish the small tub 🙂

And oh, new theme. I super like it. 🙂 Polka dots and that lovely powder blue shade is so cute!

  3. Ooh now that’s instant color. I might get one with a lighter color, this looks good on you! I’ve also had some wear-on, wear-off experience with lipstick and most I try usually make my lips dry. Kaya nagtitiis na lang muna sa lip balm =s

  4. Wow! That shade looks so pretty on you! Would love to get one for myself but I’m scared that the felt tip might dry out? As of the moment I’m eyeing on Clinique’s Chubby Stick Lip Colour Balm which I also saw from Pixiwoo.. 😀
