My mom is currently obsessed with making sushi. Before I went home from Manila to Zamboanga City, she specifically asked me to buy her nori (roasted seaweed) because it was readily available in our home town. The day after I arrived, she set out to make her sushi. It’s only her third try she claims so she hasn’t perfected the craft yet.
Me being a sushi lover, I enjoyed consuming all of her test batches.
Everything starts with nori on a makisu / sushi mat. Rub a layer of Japanese mayo on top and spread a layer of rice on top. The rice to use of course is the sticky, Japanese kind so it doesn’t fall apart. There’s a special way of cooking the rice too, by adding the perfect blend of vinegar and sugar.
The thing I love about sushi is that it’s so easy to make. You can use any ingredient you want. For use, we used ripe mangoes, cucumber, and kani (synthetic crab meat).
When you’ve got everything set, all you have to do is roll it up then chop it. 🙂
Then tada – sushi for breakfast, dinner, and lunch! It’s perfect for an Easter picnic too, don’t you think?
We’re off to a resort today to go for a swim and have a family picnic. I can’t wait to bask in the sun while dipping into a pool! This is summer! 🙂
How about you? What are your plans for easter? 😀
