A while a go, I did a haul post which included one of Revlon’s latest products for spring 2012 – the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter. Although I wanted to get all of them (the colors and flavors are very delicious indeed), I can only afford to get one. I chose long and hard and decided on Sweet Tart, a delicate fuchsia color that’s not too bright but at the same time, colorful enough to add some cheer to the face.
Ok, if this is your first time to hear about the product, you guys might wonder about why it’s called a lip butter. When I mentioned it to a male friend, he said, “Why would they put butter in lipstick?” Then I explained that, no it’s not really butter as in the one you use at breakfast, but instead Mango, Shea, and Coconut butter. These are moisturizing agents that we usually find in lotions, body butters, etc. Then it made more sense to him.
So what differentiates this from lipsticks and lip balms? Well, sometimes, lipsticks can feel drying on the lips since most are only intended to add color, not moisturize. Lip balms, on the hands, are intended to moisturize but often, these only offer sheer tints to the lips. These lip butters, according to Revlon, boost lip moisture by 156% while at the same time offering sheer to medium coverage. It’s like lipstick and lip balm in one. 🙂
Now on to my verdict:
This product is definitely going to be in my February favorites! I haven’t stopped using this product ever since I got it. Why?
1. Well the thing is, I love bright colors. I’m very much drawn to red, pink, and orange lipsticks yet at the same time, I hesitate to wear them every day since I feel the colors come too strong for day and office wear. With my Sweet Tart, however, I get a lovely fuchsia color that’s appropriate for work.
2. That leads me to my second point. I like how even though it’s sort of like a lip balm, I get good color pay off. You still more or less get the same color on your lips as the color you see on the bullet.
3. Lastly, I also love how it glides on so smoothly on my lips leaving it moisturized all day long. I feel like by wearing this, I’m actually helping my lips stay rehydrated especially in this intensely hot weather where I feel like all my exposed parts will shrivel up like raisins if I don’t do something about combating the dryness.
As for the cons, I wish this would actually have some flavor. The names (Sweet Tart, Pink Truffle, Candy Apple to name a few) sound so delectable but on your lips, they don’t really taste like anything. This makes me a bit sad since I like eating lipstick. 🙂
Moreover, I’m not so happy about how messy the packaging and the bullet look the more you wear the product. Some lipstick bullets at least retain their original shape. This don’t. Look at the photo below to see what I mean:
Overall though, I love this product and would purchase more colors when I get more money. It’s just awesome. 🙂
