OOTD: On the Fringes of Mortality

It’s 1 AM as I am writing this and though this may not be the best time to talk about this since I might end up scaring myself, processing the photos I took earlier brought to mind the idea of being on the “fringes of mortality.” Have you ever had those moments when you’re drifting in between reality and dreams?

I had them frequently before. I think scientists call those instances “sleep paralysis.” It’s precisely that moment in between waking and sleep when you’re frozen on the stop and can’t make your body move. In Filipino, we call it bangungot. For me, this paralysis is worsened by the experience of seeing a figure walking towards me. One time, I even felt myself coming out of my body and seeing myself asleep. Of course, my mind could have made that one up and for all I know, I was only dreaming about the experience. Nevertheless, it’s a curious event that makes me nervous even at present.

Anyway, before I really scare myself silly, let me move on the frivolous part of this post. That is, my outfit yesterday:

This photo came about by accident after using the “wrong” setting on my camera. I liked how it came out so much. Didn’t really edit it anymore.

Guess what I’m holding? It’s the Smart Rocket Chic Plug It! Haha Since I was already carrying it around, why not include it in the photo?

Another ghostly photo – intentional this time 🙂

What I’m wearing:

– Sheer button down blouse from Gelibean Couture

– Black fringe skirt from Bazaar

– Mesh Booties from Parisian

– Necklace from Aizylim

What about you? Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis? Share your story with me so I don’t feel so alone?

P.S. I’m going to have a really early day tomorrow. Say hello to eye bags!

  1. Yup, I’ve experienced a few instances where my mind’s telling me I should wake up but my body doesn’t respond. Sometimes I panic because I can’t breathe. One dream I can’t forget is seeing an old woman in white (presumably a white lady) and I was frozen on the spot. She was just staring me down and that gave me the creeps. haha Didn’t know they have a name for that phenomenon. Interesting man yan..haha

  3. Your ghostly photos scared me. My net is so slow and the first photo that loaded was the ghostly one. And right where I was reading the “walking towards me” part. XD

  5. It’s funny how I’d end up commenting on a post that metions “bangungot”. I just had one last night, I knew I was having it and I struggled to wake myself up. Buti na lang I was able to wake myself up, otherwise di ko mababasa tong post na to. Sleep safe . 🙂

  6. Cool outfit! But sleep paralysis is definitely uncool. I never know if I had one, but at one point I screamed so loud in my sleep that I actually woke myself (and the neighbours) up. 🙂

  8. I hate it kapg nababangungot, tlgang masakit sa pakiramdam lalo n kpag d ka mkagalaw or mkpg salita. Ako naman usually, laging my humahabol sakin tpos takbo ako ng takbo pero hindi kami natatapos. Nkakapgod na at gsto ko ng tumigil pero I’m scared na bka mahabol ako nung humahabol sakin. I hate that feeling. :/

  9. I love the look Mich! 😀 Perfect for office or work. I usually dream of a boulder trying to crash me. haha. But the worst moment was when I had a nap every Sunday during my fourth year college days, I really wanted to wake up but my body couldn’t do it. I can open my eyes but it shuts close eventually. Very creepy
