Spotlight: NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Barcelona

I rarely buy products from expensive makeup brands since I’m not actually that rich, but I thought I’d try out NARS’ Sheer Matte Foundation since Wayne Goss of gossmakeupartist.blogspot.com decided to put one up on sale. I got it for a fraction of the original price so I was extremely happy. The catch though was that it only came in one shade: Barcelona.

Before I go into the specifics, let me tell you more about the product. For this, allow me to quote from their website:

[NARS Sheer Matte Foundation is] an oil-free, soft-matte-finish foundation with sheer, buildable coverage that controls shine throughout the day while evening the skin tone. Replete with skincare benefits and the NARS Complexion Brightening Formula, it leaves skin more luminous, softer and smoother. Used daily, Sheer Matte Foundation improves the skin’s brightness and texture.

  • For normal, normal-to-oily and oily skin types
  • Oil free; absorbs oil and controls shine
  • Contains powerful anti-oxidants to protect against damaging free radicals and turmeric extract to improve skin’s radiance and tone
  • Dermatologist tested. Non-comedogenic. Fragrance free.

What I love about this foundation is that it sits so lightly on the skin despite it providing at least a medium, build-able coverage. It never feels like I have a heavy layer of makeup covering my skin. Also, believe it or not, my skin did indeed look healthier with this on. Although I don’t usually believe in these things, perhaps it is indeed the tumeric extract that NARS claims improves the skin’s radiance and tone.

It’s best applied using the fingers as this provides a more natural looking finish. Applying it with a brush doesn’t look bad either. In my opinion, few things can go wrong with this foundation.

The only problem I have with this product is the packaging. Without a pump, it can get messy trying to get this the foundation out.

Also, it’s glaringly obvious that the product is a bit too dark and warm-toned for me. Barcelona has a peachy, warm undertone that is not at all a perfect match for my yellow Asian skin. Not its fault though. It’s my fault for not researching on the shade first before buying online. 🙂 I still use it though to make myself appear more tanned and gold-y. Having said that, I think this would look great on someone with a morena skin tone.

Next time, I shall get either Gobi or Ceylan as those are designed specifically to suit Asian skin tones with yellow undertones. 🙂

In the Philippines, NARS Sheer Matte Foundation is available in NARS counters in Rustan’s. It retails for about $84, which is about PHP3,800 to PHP4,000 depending on the markup.

If you have actually tried this foundation, let me know what you think too. I’d like to know your thoughts. 🙂

  1. Sweetie, the Nars Sheer Matte liquid foundation only retails for Php2450 at Rustans. If you feel the packaging is bothersome, you can purchase a pump for your bottle at our local Nars counters for only Php395. 🙂

  2. I’m not really a fan of matte foundation. Since I’m using BB cream, it’s like all-in-one for me.. especially the one from Etude that I’m using.. 🙂

    ~~~ and this one’s super mahal naman! hahaha.. 😀
    1. Hahahaha yeah, I guess you’re also partly paying for the brand. I like foundations kasi and I have a few with different finishes. Maybe I should get a BB Cream one of these days just to see what the hype’s about. How much is the BB cream you got from Etude?
  3. Like Teresa there, I use BB creams too! Haha. *high five to Teresa!*
    I find it easy to use even though I am such a newbie when it comes to makeup. It makes me look clean, refreshed and not so oily. Lol. Kinda like foundation but better? Haha. Well, for me it is better for daily use. I have a foundation just in case I need to dress up and be glam for some special events. (I have Revlon’s Photoready)
  4. its not too dark, it looks nice. But to each their own. I can wear Fiji,carcelona,Punjab. Funny because ceylan is lighter than fiji but they say on the site that fiji is lighter. Anywho,
  5. also, the people who use barcelona are all white people. There is no such thing as “asian” skin.. there are asians who are dark ksinned and some that are lighter. but compared to caucasians,asians are dark skinned.
    This is not suited for dark skin but for lighter skin. Which is why its light-medium.
