One morning at work, I found an envelope on my table addressed to me. It was quite a surprise since I wasn’t really expecting anything from anyone that day. When I opened it, I saw a sweet note from my friend Jill plus this Sexy Mama translucent powder from The Balm. It instantly cheered me up and kept me happy the entire day. I love surprises! 🙂
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you would have read about another product I’ve reviewed from The Balm. There, I wrote that what attracted me most about this brand was the retro packaging of its products. I love vintage, especially pin-up girls! Ever since then, I really fell in love with the quality of their products so I was very excited to try this new one. 🙂
This powder came in something that reminded me of the old matchboxes that my granddad used to collect. It’s also just a few inches bigger than the smallest matchbox sold today. When you open it, a mirror is conveniently placed on one side for easy application while the other carries the product. Brilliant! A powder brush is needed to apply this on the face, however, so have one ready.
Well, what sets this apart from other pressed powders? It’s translucent! This means that although it blots out the oil from the face and reduces shine, it’s very sheer and doesn’t alter the color of the skin. This is especially good for setting foundation without making it look like you’ve packed a ton of product on your face. It still allows the skin to show through, thus it’s very helpful if you’re going for a natural look or when you just don’t want to appear too made up.
Of course, if you’re going for coverage, then this product is obviously not for you. But, if you’ve got gloriously clear skin and want to flaunt it, then better make sure you have this translucent powder in your hand bag.
When applying this, don’t be afraid to put a liberal amount on your brush then gently dab the brush where you most need it. For me, it’s on my T-zone. As promised, it does blot out the shine, keeping me fresh-looking throughout the day.
Since this was given to me as a gift, I can’t say how much it is yet, but I shall be sure to drop by Beauty Bar soonest to check its cost. And yes, here in the Philippines, it’s only available at The Beauty Bar. 🙂
