Shabu-Shabu and Korean Grilling at Home

It has been my aunt’s long-time desire to own a hot-pot and grill set because she very much enjoys Korean barbecue and shabu-shabu. A few weeks back, much to her excitement, she was finally able to buy one from a Korean store near our house. Since then, we have been having our own Korean-inspired meals regularly. No one can be as happy as I am about this since I absolutely love Korean cuisine as well. 🙂

I thought I’d share the experience with everyone as some might also appreciate this type of cuisine.

Ingredients for the Shabu-Shabu

We didn’t need a lot of condiments and flavoring because we already had this. This, by the way, made all the difference to soup. It’s really good.

Vegetables are must-haves for the hot-pot. It’s up to you which vegetables you want to add. For our meal, we had some lettuce, carrots, spring onions, and tomatoes. We also had lobster balls, fish rolls, and cream dory (not in this photo).

To make our soup truly Asian, we also had some soft Japanese tofu. This is the tofu used in miso soups.

Instructions

This meal was so fun especially because it was so easy to make. Just fill a small pan with 3/4 water then dissolve the soup base into it.

Dump the rest of the ingredients into the pan then wait for it to boil, stirring occasionally. Then, voila! Yummy soup.

Grilling the Bulgogi

Aside from the soup, we also had some bulgogi, which also came from the Korean store.

To cook, simply wait for the grill to heat then add some butter to oil it.

Add the meat then wait until it’s cooked. Very simple, right? No sweat! 🙂

Pickled Raddish, Anyone?

To accompany our soup and bulgogi, we also had some kimchi and this pickled radish as our side dishes.

The end result? A happy, well-fed tummy! 🙂
